Weir and Partners LLP

Recruitment: Summer Associate Program

Contact: Edward T. Kang, Esquire

Overview

Weir & Partners seeks motivated, creative and enthusiastic students who desire to gain a thorough understanding of the practice of law through hands-on experience.

Second year law students will work with nearly every lawyer in the firm during their summer at Weir & Partners, and face many of the same challenges. Our summer associates soon discover that they have as much to offer to those challenges as an experienced attorney, and more importantly, they begin to develop the skills necessary to succeed in their future legal practice.

In order to ensure the growth of these skills, we provide a strong mentoring program to enhance the educational experience. However, our summer associates do more than just learn the technical aspects of being a lawyer; they also gain significant exposure to the "real world" strategic, ethical and practical issues every lawyer must consider.

Sample Assignments

  • Organized and directed evidence production in response to Department of Justice subpoena stemming from an international criminal indictment; traveled to Europe with attorney to interview client;

  • Assisted attorney in drafting appellee brief and preparing for argument before Pennsylvania Superior Court;

  • Helped prepare witness for deposition and assisted attorney at deposition;

  • Prepared documentation for formation of a Pennsylvania Limited Liability Company.

Your Summer Experience

Because of our size, we do not need to rotate our summer associates through various departments. Nonetheless, each student will be deliberately assigned to a wide variety of subject matters and legal issues, and in the process, get to know how the firm works as a whole.

Edward Kang serves as the coordinator for the summer associate program, and meets with the students weekly to go over both the large issues and the small. However, each attorney at the Firm is charged with mentoring responsibilities, whether stemming from an actual case, or just answering questions as they arise. Firm-wide meetings are also held every other week to facilitate the exchange of ideas and new developments in the law. Associates also attend bi-weekly meetings, run by one or more partners, in which the summer associates are invited to participate.

Application Process

Students are encouraged to apply for the summer associate program at the beginning of their second year. If Weir & Partners does not visit your school as part of an on-campus interview process, please mail us your resume to be considered.
